Next Step Fusion News Q1 2026

Every quarter, we share a progress update to keep the fusion community informed about what we're building, what we're solving, and where we're headed.

Highlights

  • Modular Diagnostics Platform — our end-to-end industrial diagnostics solution takes shape, anchored by two landmark partnerships with DIII-D and UCLA.
  • UK expansion — office at Milton Innovation Center, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, led by Michele Romanelli (JET/EUROfusion/Tokamak Energy).
  • Made in Luxembourg — received the Made in Luxembourg certificate from the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.

News & Updates

  • MDPWe are aggressively advancing our Modular Diagnostics Platform — an end-to-end industrial diagnostics solution for next-generation MCF systems and future FPPs, rooted in our CTO and his team's hands-on experience delivering diagnostics to major fusion devices including ITER. Newly announced partnerships with DIII-D and UCLA bring enormous scientific and engineering depth to the work.
  • MDP & DIII-DWe announced our collaboration with the DIII-D National Fusion Facility, where we will test the first Modular Diagnostics Platform prototype — MR and ECE in a single modular unit. The collaboration includes a full design review process, and with the expertise and feedback of the DIII-D team, will drive the development and testing of robust industrial diagnostics solutions for fusion.
  • MDP & UCLAWe announced a joint feasibility and pre-conceptual design study with UCLA on microwave diagnostics — reflectometry, DBS, ECE, and RIP — assessed across ARC-like compact high-field tokamaks and GIGA-like stellarators. Outcomes will feed directly into the MDP pre-conceptual design and our data-processing inference engine for reactor-grade plasmas.
  • UK OfficeWe have opened a UK office at Milton Innovation Center, Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The office is led by Michele Romanelli, an integrated modelling expert with a distinguished background at JET, EUROfusion, and Tokamak Energy. Welcome aboard!
  • Made in LuxembourgWe are proud to have received the Made in Luxembourg certificate on stage of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce — a label that has stood for quality and origin for 40 years. We will carry this mark with pride to every client conversation around the world, whether we are working with fusion facilities in Europe, Asia, or the Americas.
  • DANTE FusionWe are thrilled to see our partner and customer DANTE Fusion exit stealth — debuting at FusionX Global 2026 in Munich with a Compact Fusion Neutron Source targeting materials testing, isotope production, and neutron generation for research. Welcome to the stage!
  • Columbia EngineeringOur multi-year collaboration with Columbia Engineering's plasma physics group continues with a new project: Limit-Informed Full Pulse Scenario Optimization, advancing our tokamak integrated modeling framework.
  • EventsIn Q1 2026 we actively sponsored, participated and presented at such industry events as GEMIC 2026, ITER Open Doors Day, OSSFE, FusionX:Global in Munich, Young Women's Conference Luxembourg, 6th Fusion HPC Workshop, EUROfusion E-TASC General Meeting #2, and others.

Current Opportunities

  • We were looking for a Microwave Systems Engineer to lead our Modular Diagnostics Platform development. Although the vacancy is now closed on LinkedIn, we are sure that eventually we will need more talented people on our team, so do not hesitate to send us a message and follow us on LinkedIn to not miss future vacancies.
  • We are actively looking for diagnostics solutions supply chain companies and labs to discuss how we can leverage their experience and solutions in building the Modular Diagnostics Platform. Get in touch.
  • We invite all private and public MCF device builders to start working on their diagnostics together with us. Reach out — let's build something great.
